Analysis and suggestions for defense countermeasures of summer drought in North China, Northwest China, Huang-Huai Region and other northern regions in 2024

A severe summer drought hit in northern regions such as North China, Northwest China, and Huang-Huai Region from May to June 2024, pose serious impacts on sowing of seasonal crops and the emergence and growth of sown crops with the combination of high temperature and drought during the "three summers" of summer harvest, summer sowing, and summer management. In this paper, we analyzed the evolution, characteristics, causes, and defense measures of this drought, and highlighted the deficiencies in disaster prevention from in-situ investigation. Finally, some suggestions regarding the targeted defense measures were proposed.
