Abstract: This paper reviews flood hazards in Ganzhou City and the history of construction and development of “Happy and long-life” flood management channel. Its unique characteristics and functions represent a particular urban drainage system with flood detention pond and drainage channel. It has been performing very well for flood and waterlogging control in the old urban area of Ganzhou for a thousand years. This ancient project provides precious reference value for urban construction and flood management.
